I haven't quit just looking for a new road

I haven't given up on finding justice for you Uncle Peewee I am just trying to find someone to listen. I have tried social media, contacting local and federal government, and I have contacted  news stations. No one will listen they do not care because you were in a nursing home therefore you are a forgotten person. I know if you had been a child then it would be different there would have been a full investigation of the incident and someone would haven been made to pay for what happened to you but because you are a older man not quite a senior you do not matter to the powers that be. I wish I knew what else to do because right now I am at a loss. I did hire a lawyer and she is working to get somethings done but it is taking forever they say justice is blind well I say it is slow and uncaring God help me I won't quit!

To Manor Care

Dear Manor Care,

                               You may have the records fixed so you look like you did everything you can to take care of him but I have the pictures which prove that you didn't and as you know pictures speak a thousand words. I am not going to go away or drop this, to you he was just another number but to me he was my uncle and a beloved family member.  You can rest a sure that I am going to do everything in my power to inform people of the kind of facility that you are and how your staff care nothing for the residents who reside there. I hope everyone of you who have a loved one in this place no matter where it is located takes your family member somewhere else before they are harmed or killed by this greedy corporation. The higher ups in this company care nothing about the residents all they care about is their bottom line. Manor Care it is just a matter of time before your luck runs out and I hope, I am the beginning of that down fall. 

The Day before he passed away 10-19-2013

Have you ever held your breath so long it felt like your lungs were going to explode, or have you ever swallowed to much water choked on it getting that feeling like your never going to be able to catch your breath? Now that you have those images in your mind think about this, this is what my uncle suffered for almost a month of his life caused by the damage to his heart by the infection he suffered which was left untreated until he became septic.

These pictures were taken the day before he passed away. He looks horrible right well I wish I could get the video to load so you could hear what he sounded like. He drowned in the fluid from his lungs, his lungs were so full that he would cough and the fluid would come out of his mouth. Gilchrist Hospice Center did every thing they could to help relieve his suffering by giving him medications to get rid of the fluid but nothing helped for long. My uncle suffered a great deal and it breaks my heart to think the people who caused this will get away with it. It breaks my heart even more to know because nothing is being done, someone else's family will have to deal with the same thing. My uncle is not their first victim and he will not be their last if we do not stand up now for others like my uncle. This company deserves to be shut down and if criminal charges could be pressed against them they should be, I mean if you or I did this to another human being we would be sitting in a prison cell. Why can't the ones who failed to care for him face the same thing?

This Is the quality of care to expect from MANORCARE RUXTON or any for that matter.

No one has the right to treat another human being this way. If you place your loved one in any ManorCare facility be prepared to bury them because they will not live long with treatment like this.

Office of Health Care Quality Maryland what a joke

I contacted the office of Health Care Quality to report my uncles neglect and they said they would make it a priority. They sure did it took them almost a month to investigate and in that time gave ManorCare Ruxton time to cover there butts and change their records. So their will be no reprimands there will be no reports for the public to see instead ManorCare once again gets a pass from the state they are free to continue neglecting their patients and killing people.

Please come forward and speak the truth !

I am calling for those who have had a love one injured or killed by ManorCare to come forward speak out against this place before they claim another life! I am asking those of you who worked for Manorcare any of you who witnessed the neglect patients suffered to come forward because I know you are out there and I know if we all pull together we have a chance to shut down this company and it's facilities ! No one deserves to suffer the way these poor patients do and the way my uncle did. My Uncle is their latest victim he DIED as a result of the neglect he suffered. He did not die quickly and painlessly he suffered terribly and I know there are others out there who have a loved one who suffered the same fate as my uncle. We can prevent this from happening to someone else if we speak out PLEASE DO NOT LET ANOTHER PERSON DIE !

CHICAGO, September 27, 2011 – Chicago nursing home attorneys with Levin & Perconti 

announced two large nursing home negligence settlements with ManorCare Health Services - 

South Holland (2145 East 170th Street South Holland, IL). The first settlement for $1 million 

was approved earlier this month. The second settlement was approved last week for $750,000. 

Steven M. Levin, Margaret P. Battersby Black, and Tina Dave represented the victims’ families in 

the settlements. 

“In both cases, our elderly clients developed terrible pressure sores because staff at the facility 

failed to provide adequate care,” said Steve Levin. “This negligence caused our clients’ 

conditions to deteriorate and forced them to endure significant pain in their final years.” 

“The victims’ families filed lawsuits to draw attention to the problems at ManorCare South 

Holland, with the hopes of preventing this from happening to future residents,” said Levin. “Our 

clients’ cases illustrate that there were serious systemic issues at the facility.” 

“During our investigation, a former wound care nurse testified that during the time of our 

client’s admission, the facility was understaffed and unable to provide adequate care to 

residents. If staff complained or raised concerns with the Illinois Department of Public Health, 

they were reprimanded by their superiors,” noted Levin. “Due to insufficient staffing, the 

nursing staff could not deliver proper care to residents. The wound care nurse testified to 

witnessing many residents lying in their own urine or feces, and residents with pressure sores 

not being turned or repositioned.” 

The $1 million nursing home neglect settlement was obtained by the family of an 80-year-old 

resident who entered the facility on January 2, 2007. During her five month stay, she developed 

multiple infected stage IV bed sores which contributed to cause her death on December 31, 

2008, nearly two years after she was first admitted to the facility. The victim’s family filed a 

lawsuit in November 2008 in the Circuit Court of Cook County, alleging that in addition to failing 

to prevent or properly treat the decedent’s bed sores, the staff caring for her engaged in false 

charting, drug abuse and negligent hiring. 

The $750,000 settlement was reached for the family of an 82-year-old woman who resided at 

ManorCare at South Holland for six weeks in the fall of 2007. She entered the nursing home for 

rehabilitation purposes and was expected to return home. However, during her admission, she 

developed a deep bed sore that required surgery and took over two years to heal. She also Levin & Perconti Page Two

became malnourished and immobile. After six weeks, the victim’s family moved her out of the 

facility, but she was unable to ever fully recover from her injuries caused by neglect at the South 

Holland facility. Her family filed the lawsuit in March 2009 in the Circuit Court of Cook County, 

alleging that the victim’s rapid deterioration was a result of the insufficient care and treatment 

rendered by ManorCare staff.

Let me tell you his story

Feeding tube because he was malnourished 

Harry Blizzard is a sixty-two year old man who has had a hard life from the beginning. He is not perfect but then again who is right he was a homeless man that lived on the streets until he had a stroke four years ago which left him partially paralyzed  on one side and with slight case of dementia . He was placed in a nursing home called Manor Care to receive after hospital care when the nursing home said they could not reach his family members (which was a lie) he became a ward of the state and they were now responsible for his well being after a time he was sent to another Manor Care Facility this one in Towson Maryland it was Manor Care Ruxton where he was placed in a locked unit so he could not leave after a few years he became less mobile and was moved to a normal floor where he then was neglected. This man is my Uncle and I had searched for him for fifteen years and saw him for the first time on September 7, 2013  and it was one of the happiest days in my life. I did not realize how sick he was because I had not seen him in years, if I had known I would have been all over them to move him right then and there to the hospital while there I asked about how he was doing and they said oh he is fine and that there was nothing really wrong with him they insisted that he had been up and walking three weeks before I saw him. On September 17 I get a phone call that my uncle had a skin tear on his right clavicle and that he was not feeling well later that same day they called and told me the doctor ordered test to see if anything was going on and I heard nothing else. At nine-thirty that night I get a phone call from the hospital my uncle had been admitted and he was in bad shape and I needed to come down because he might not make it. I talk to the doctors and learn not only was my uncle sick he was deathly ill but not because he had the flu or a cold, or because he was having ill side effects from his other health problems but because he had an infection sepsis to be exact, he was dehydrated and had sores on his body. One of the sores happen to be the outline of a bedpan on his bottom. These people left this poor man on a bedpan possibly for days how cruel can you get. After more in-depth conversations with multiple doctors it was explained to me that he had been severely neglected he was malnourished and he was also in multiple organ failure. This is when I also learned his heart was damaged to the point that resuscitation should not be an option because people as bad off as him rarely recover. Today he is in Gilchrist Hospice Center.

I believe that something needs to be done to end things like this from happening to other people who are unable to speak for themselves and I believe my uncle Harry Blizzard deserves justice for what was done to him when he was unable to care for his-self.
